The Long Beach College Promise

Get Started

The Long Beach College Promise was created to be accessible to all students throughout the Long Beach Unified School District. Graduates from LBUSD who enroll at Long Beach City College immediately upon graduating high school will be eligible for two years of free tuition. If desired, this can be followed by a transfer to California State University Long Beach, where local preference admission is given to eligible applicants from the Long Beach area. Students can also use the education and resources provided to them at LBCC and CSULB to make a more seamless transition into the workforce. Whatever path students take, the Long Beach community has their back.

Below, you’ll find more information on the specific requirements that allow students to take advantage of all The Promise has to offer.

Admission to CSULB

Students interested in attending CSULB should plan ahead by taking college-prep courses throughout their high school career. Additionally, as they discover which studies they might like to pursue, students are advised to review major-specific requirements as they work to fulfill coursework expectations and prepare for ACT and/or SAT testing.

Students from the Long Beach area who have already begun their college career and hope to transfer to CSULB will receive “local preference” consideration depending on where they graduated high school. For more information on admission requirements and how to plan ahead, be sure to review our page dedicated to prospective CSULB students .

The Long Beach College Promise provided me with many resources as a student, and it also gave me many opportunities. It helped with my first two years of college, and I'm grateful for being a part of the LBCP!
